The tablets almost equal to the PC units
Smart devices shipments are expected to be on a rise once again this year with the number and size of shipments going to the retailers increasing tremendously. It is expected that by the end of this year, more than 2.43 billion units would have been shipped from the manufacturers to the retailers and markets and this outnumbers the 2.34 billion figure from last year.
For these numbers, we can thank Gartner which breaks them down by traditional PCs, ultrabooks and premium laptops, tablets and mobile phones. As far as the PC market is concerned, it will only have 308 million devices shipped and the tablets will close in on 256 million for the year. However, the situation of the tablets is expected to change next year when they will outnumber the PCs by almost 4 million units.
we can tell, mobile phones form the biggest segment out of this total figure. This year the units are expected to take a toll of 1.86 billion shipments, beating the tablet and PC segments. And this will just continue to grow next year with the shipped units reaching 2 billion.
