Nadine Angerer won the 2013 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year Award on Monday. The German captain, Nadine Angerer is the first goalkeeper to win the FIFA World Player of the Year honor.

The Fifa Ballon d’Or ceremony not only honors Cristiano Ronaldo but also Nadine Angerer. If Cristiano Ronaldo is the #1 football player in the world, Nadine Angerer is the #1 female player of the game. And Nadine’s award is also unique since she has become the first goalkeeper to win the FIFA World Player of the Year Award. No goalkeeper in the world, even from the men’s football teams, has ever won this award.

This Monday was the biggest day for the German captain and goalkeeper Nadine Angerer. She had signed an agreement with Portland Thorns FC of the National Women’s Soccer League.

According to NBC Sports, “Among the 147 national team coaches, 146 captains and 88 media members, Angerer grabbed 612 points. Meanwhile, Wambach claimed 539 points and Marta earned 439 points. All the votes can be found here.”

Last year, this award was given to Abby Wambach who hails from the United States. Brazil’s famous footballer, Marta has been winning the award for five years consecutively. She remained the undisputed winner from 2006-2010. But the 2013 Award goes to Nadine Angerer who beat both women to take the honors for Germany.

But Germany not only grabbed the 2013 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year Award but has also won many other women’s awards at the FIFA Ballon d’Or ceremony. The German women’s football team coach, Sylvia Neid, also won the FIFA World Coach of the Year Award.
