The film will focus on first few days of Jacqueline Kennedy after John F. Kennedy’s assassination
It seems that the personality of Jacqueline Kennedy will be a hot topic of discussion in coming days as yet another film is going to make about this stylish, iconic First Lady and this time around Natalie Portman will play the character of Jacqueline Kennedy.
The news has been confirmed by Variety during the 68th Cannes Film Festival that Oscar-winning actress is officially joining the upcoming biopic titled “Jackie”, directed by Pablo Larrain. The film will focus on the first four days of Jackie’s life after the assassination of her husband President John F. Kennedy.
The project was in discussions way back in 2010 when filmmaker Darren Aronofsky was all set to make a film about Jacqueline Kennedy with her then fiancée Rachel Weisz in the title role. But the filming could not start due to the breakup of the couple. Fox Searchlight Pictures tried to bring Darren Aronofsky back into the fold and now, he will reportedly produce the film while Chilean directer Pablo Larrain has been hired to direct the film. The shooting will take place at the end of the year.
Darren Aronofsky has a prolific profile as a filmmaker. He helmed films like “Black Swan” and “The Fighter” in the past. Pablo Larrain is a relatively new name for U.S. audience but not for Chileans. His film “No” has won Art Cinema Award at 2012 Cannes Film Festival and has also been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in 85th Oscar Awards.
The 33-year old actress, who has recently made his directorial debut with “The Tale of Love and Darkness”, now joins long list of actresses who have played Jacqueline at some point in their careers and among those are Jaclyn Smith, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Minka Kelly and Katie Holmes.
This is not the only biopic Natalie has decided to work on. She has recently signed a film which revolves around the Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and will follow her fight for the equal rights and the obstacles she faced during the struggle.
