Nepal Earthquake Kills 17 on Mount Everest Including Google Manager

Nepal Earthquake devastation bigger than expected. Many tourists under the victims.

An earthquake with magnitude 7.8 occurred near Lamjung, Nepal on /5/25, 2015 that brought major destruction to the country and it is believed that close to 2,000 people died. It is the worst earthquake since 1934 in the region. The relief efforts are underway, but the information about the impact of the earthquake are still scarce and the death toll could still rise.

The earthquake also hit home to Silicon Valley as multiple avalanches killed mountaineers on Mount Everest including a Google manager. Dan Fredinburg died in an avalanche that hit the Mount Everest base camp. There are reportedly 17 climbers that died on Mount Everest, making it the worst disaster that happened on the highest mountain on planet earth.

Dan Fredinberg was a Manager for Google X responsible for overall privacy. 

His sister Megan shared this on his Instagram account: 

“This is Dans little sister Megan. I regret to inform all who loved him that during the avalanche on Everest early this morning our Dan suffered from a major head injury and didn’t make it. We appreciate all of the love that has been sent our way thus far and know his soul and his spirit will live on in so many of us. All our love and thanks to those who shared this life with our favorite hilarious strong willed man. He was and is everything to us. Thank you.”

Google has set up a person finder to help locate missing people in the Nepal earthquake. The BBC reports that rescue efforts only could start in full Sunday morning, due to the many aftershocks.
