Nest team will remain intact

Rumors are flying today that the Nest team that Google purchased not long ago will now become the core hardware group at the search giant. With Google selling off Motorola mobility, it would make sense for Nest to fill that gap.

Nothing substantial ever came from the purchase of Motorola Mobility. Google did keep the patent it acquired in the deal when it sold off Motorola Mobility to Lenovo recently. Perhaps those patents are all Google ever wanted.

The Nest team is mostly know for smart thermostats and smoke detectors. TechCrunch figures that won’t be what the team makes now that they are at Google. The CEO of Nest is a former Apple engineer that worked on the iPhone and iPod. Several other Nest people are also former Apple engineers.

They would be well suited to helping Google with tablets and smartphones. It’s unclear exactly what hardware they will be working on. What we do know is that Google has said it will keep the team intact inside its operations.
