New Star Wars Movie Predicted to Make Biggest Opening in History

The biggest opening weekend of a movie in the United States had The Avengers. The new Star Wars movie is seen to take that title this Christmas.

The new Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer has generated 41 million views in 4 days since its release. Reports about the new Star Wars movie are everywhere and the promotions just have started. The movie is still 8 month away, but the anticipation is already incredible. How big of an box office hit can the new Star Wars movie directed by J.J. Abrams be? The biggest we have ever seen believe Hollywood insiders. 

According to a new report on THR, A Hollywood executive is quoted saying: “If Star Wars: The Force Awakens doesn’t score the biggest debut ever when it hits theaters Dec. 18, he’ll “run up and down Sunset Boulevard naked.”

The title of biggest opening of movie in the US is held by Marvel’s The Avengers with 207m in 2012. The Avengers are possibly topping this with the upcoming Age of Ultron release (/4/1). The generations spawning new Star Wars movie has though the Power to top the Marvel universe. Star Wars is back in a big way and it really never left pop culture in all those years since the last Star Wars movie.

On a global box office level Stars Wars has to battle Harry Potter. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 raked in $483m in 2011. This is more difficult to beat, but Star Wars is a global phenomenon and the Force is not only strong in America.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams.

The cast includes John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.

They will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

The film is being produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk, and John Williams returns as the composer.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is Episode VII in the Star Wars Saga. Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters December 18, 2015.
