‘Nightcrawler’ /4/be this actor’s best performance.

Jake Gyllenhaal is one of those actors that can take up any role and is one of the most dependable actors. However in Dan Gilroy’s ‘Nightcrawler’ he pushes himself further than ever, delivering his career best performance up till now. In this dark comedy thriller ‘Nightcrawler’, Gyllenhaal plays Lou Bloom, a wide-eyed sociopath who sells crime-scene footage to a desperate news producer.

Gyllenhaal went so deep into his character that he lost over 20 pounds for the movie and even punched the mirror so hard that he had to get stiches. The movie also stars Bill Paxton, James Huang and current and former Los Angeles TV news anchors and reporters, including Kent Shocknek, Pat Harvey and Sharon Tay.

Gyllenhaal was asked whether he feels there’s a time limit on taking such dark roles and he replied that he does not know. He has an animal inside him and he always will. He said that whatever your truth is you should continue doing that but there is responsibility and compromise as you become an adult.

Gyllenhaal expressed that his plan is to be honest with himself even if it takes him into dark places. As Gyllenhaal started as a child actor he explained that he thinks that nothing has changed since then except the fact that he has even gotten closer to the way he feels. He expressed that he likes challenging himself and something it is something he plans on doing forever. 

Gyllenhaal further expressed that when the script was first sent to him he did not envision himself in it. He explained that he never starts seeing himself in it but gets excited by the ideas. When he first read the script it was a huge challenge, sometimes when you read a script you start wondering how to bring it to life. Lou he explained is not a three dimensional character but a six dimensional character which is so well prepared.

Gyllenhaal further explained one of the scenes from the movie where he is manipulating Rene Russo’s character. He explains that Lou is a product of the internet, his moral code is set by the internet and he deals with people as if they are computers. He expresses that to Lou it is like a game. Jake Gyllenhaal also expressed his admiration of the character ‘Lou’.

He praised Dan for writing such a character and explained that the qualities that Lou has should be present in every human being. Gyllenhaal himself believes in persistence, discipline and commitment, the same qualities Lou has. Jake believes that there is a Lou in all of us.

Jake also revealed that many people told him that the movie is disturbing but he said that everyone is disturbed by a part inside them. He stressed that he is interested in Lou’s idea of ambition and success at any cost and you don’t take no for an answer. Jake thinks that anyone who believes in the capitalist idea of success has a Lou in them. Jake also expressed that he would soon jump in the directing business.
