The two companies seem to be working on the acquisition of Nokia’s Devices and Services division
A lot has been going around lately regarding Nokia’s Devices and Services division and its acquisition and we have recently got some statements from Microsoft and Nokia which address this matter. Some related patent licenses also seem to be part of the deal here and both companies are expecting the deal to be closed soon with the final round of formalities and regulatory approvals nearing completion.
It has been quite some time now since the deal was first announced back in September last year and was about Microsoft acquiring Nokia’s Devices and Services division and granting exclusive use of its patents for a period of ten years. Of course we understand that the deal was a big thing to manage and it had to go through a lot of processes which it has lately. But still we werent expecting it to take this long. Regulatory approvals from fifteen markets across five continents have been received by Microsoft and the European Commission and the US DoJ have long since given said approval and were the earliest to grant this deal a thumbs up. Now the only thing holding this deal back is the intrusion from certain Asian antitrust authorities which seem to be coming in the way. At the start of the month, Korean manufacturers petitioned the FTC in regards to Microsoft’s exclusive use of Nokia’s patents.
