Olympus has built upon Sony’s concept and will provide smartphone users to capture high quality images.

After Sony released its QX lens cameras it gave rise to a new concept even though its lens did not turn out to be so great. However Olympus has decided to build upon this new concept and has so introduced its Olympus Air.

The Olympus Air A01 is a 16 megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor and mount that can take any of the numerous lenses released for the format so far. Moreover this Olympus lens will work with a series of apps which includes one that replicates a physical camera mode dial and another one that employs the Art Filters built into Olympus line of full Micro Four Thirds cameras.

There are going to be eight different apps providing many of the different features that I will explain to you below. With the Olympus Air smartphone users can now enjoy 6 pattern photos in one shot.

Then there is the impressive Olympus Air Art Filter. This Art Filter will be already installed in the digital camera and users will be able to enjoy a combination of 14 different art filters and 9 types of art effects.

The Olympus Air has also been equipped with the Color Creator. This is basically an app from which the users will be able to control and adjust the brightness according to their wishes. The Olympus Air will also come installed with a Photo Story application.

This will allow the users to shoot a scene from a plurality of viewpoints and can then be combined in one piece. This will allow the users to direct everyday scenes and memories of a scene. Moreover the users will be allowed to expand the width of photographic expression and remote shooting is also possible using a smartphone even from a distance.

The image quality of the lens and image sensor will be determined by three image processing engines. Moreover users will also be able to take advantage of the ‘M.ZUIKO DIGITAL LENS’ which is a group of high performance lens that has been developed in the ‘PEN’ in full.

Then the lens has adopted the fast ‘FAST AF’ system that basically achieves high precision autofocus by simply touching the location where the users want to focus on the screen of the smartphone.

Moreover the Olympus Air will be able to capture fast moving subjects because of its ultra-high speed shutter and its high speed continuous shooting capability of up to 10 frames per second. The lens also have three times more digital zoom than other lenses and also a digital teleconverter function.

The Olympus Air has been planned for release in Japan from March 6th. The company has priced its new product at ¥33,800 which makes it about $289. There will be a bundle with Olympus regular 14-42mm f/3.5-6.6 kit lens that will be priced at ¥49,800. Now let’s hope that the Olympus Air becomes a hit unlike the Sony QX lens.
