Oscars
The Oscars for 2015 have already ahead of time started the rumor mill running in full swing. And among the nominations are many that yield a few surprises in their turn.
The Oscars 2015 are going to take place soon. But before the big day arrives when actresses and actors hold their gold-plated figurines, the prognostications and forecasts have begun to hit the airwaves of cyberspace. The total number of nominations and chosen films, directors, musicians, animated movies and acting talent on tap is too much to go into in any detail. Yet to name a few that made the grade (or rather made the cut) is to still spark up a debate about the best and the rest.
Among the most excellent movies that entertain and inform /4/be included: The Theory of Everything which is a biopic of the genius physicist with Lou Gehrig’s disease, Stephen Hawking. Eddie Redmayne plays the afflicted yet spared physicist. The life and times of the man whom nature has been so cruel to yet who has the mind to traverse the farthest recesses of the universe is laid out for anyone to see in its tragic yet miraculous setting.
Then there is The Imitation Game which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing, the original founder of computers and all things having to do with computing. The handsome star plays the counterpart of Keira Knightley. Alan of course was a closet homosexual and suffered from the divulgence of his lifestyle choice in an age when the Western world was not so forgiving of such a sexual choice. Morten Tyldum, the director of The Imitation Game, has his name among the crème de la crème of movie makers.
Other names slated to snatch the trophy are Richard Linklater for Boyhood, starring the actor Ethan Hawke. The actor, Steve Carell meanwhile is the main man in the film Foxcatcher opposite Mark Ruffalo. Reese Witherspoon is a nominee too for her role as a tough female hitchhiker in the documentary-cum-movie Wild. She is alongside Laura Dern in the movie.
Meanwhile, American Sniper and Birdman not to mention Whiplash are three other movies which are deemed fit enough to need mentioning in the scheme of all things Hollywood. Among the animated stuff, The Boxtrolls and How to Train your Dragon 2, show some weird creatures and a wussy son’s journey towards becoming brave enough to avenge his father’s defeat at the hands of an evil dragon master.
As far as some of the predictions hot off the press are concerned, Birdman takes the prize and will probably win the nomination for best picture. As for the best director, it is a tie between Richard Linklater of Boyhood fame and Alejandro Gonzalez who saw to the making of the movie Birdman. The best actor has Eddie Redmayne as Stephen Hawking being the prime candidate for an Oscar.
However, the apple cart /4/be upset by Bradley Cooper. And looking to the female half, actress Julianne Moore in Still Alice shines like no one else. Nevertheless Rosamund Pike of Gone Girl with Ben Affleck deserves it too, so let’s see who comes out as the winner. And coming to the best supporting actor and actress category, we have Robert Duvall in The Judge playing a dictatorial father who has issues with his son, and Patricia Arquette in Boyhood.
The screenplays (original and adapted) that made the list of prophecies include The Grand Budapest Hotel and Whiplash. Animated movies have How to Train your Dragon 2 being tops. And foreign language films have Ida as a key favorite slated to win the Oscar. The most soulful song has Glory from the film Selma as a top musical contender. Boyhood and Nightcrawler have a place among the crowd favorites as movies by director Richard Linklater and starring actor Jake Gyllenhaal respectively.
Harvey Weinstein with his grizzled beard and big frame created The Imitation Game which is bound to be a winner in one category or another. This is the same man who made Shakespeare in Love way back in the late 90s. On the other hand, Bradley Cooper is the humdinger dude who /4/bag a possible position in American Sniper. The fellow is smart and oozes tons of personality.
Anna Paquin and Halle Berry are being sent emails by the Oscars committee in order to increase turnout. Halle as everyone knows cried her heart out upon winning the nomination for best actress in Monster’s Ball opposite Billy Bob Thornton once upon a time. She couldn’t believe her ears that a Black American actress had won such a big honor.
The 2015 Oscars will get held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, LA on February 22, 2015. The derby center has made the nomination choices a virtual relay race that is picking up pace. The alternatives and main motifs include somewhere among them The LEGO Movie and over two dozen categories that will get the coveted Oscars. Neil Patrick Harris (remember him from the series Doogie Howser M.D.) will host the show this year and it would be a delight to hear him wisecrack his way to declaring the winners from each genre.
