Pre-orders fire up for MakerBot Replicator Mini 3D printer

MakerBot now taking pre-orders on its cheapest 3D printer ever

MakerBot has been selling Replicator 3D printers for a long time. Most of those printers are over $2000 if you want to buy one putting them out of the reach of many. The company has announced that it is now taking pre-orders for the MakerBot Replicator Mini 3D printer.

This is a smaller version of the Replicator 2 that is also cheaper. The mini is the cheapest 3D printer that MakerBot has ever offered. The printer is up for pre-order now for $1375. That is much more affordable than other 3D printers are, even if it’s not exactly cheap.

“Reflecting on the future of our products, I imagine a lot of them will look like the MakerBot Replicator Mini,” said Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “We’ve been working hard for years to make 3D printing easy; now, with the MakerBot Replicator Mini, it is easy. We view the MakerBot Replicator Mini as a versatile and tidy 3D printer that can fit almost anywhere – up at the Space Station, at an elite institution, or in a preschool.”

The printer is sized for use in small offices, homes, or schools. It will begin shipping this spring; an exact ship date is unannounced. It can print items using MakerBot PLA Filament in 17 colors. Items can be up to 3.9 x 3.9 x 4.9-inches. The printer has a default resolution of 200 microns. The printer is also made so that the production tray doesn’t need to be leveled.
