Redskins Give in to Fans’ Pressure to Bring in Colt McCoy and Bench Robert Griffin III

Redskins coach, Jay Gruden, has finally bowed down to pressure from fans to bring in Colt McCoy to relieve Robert Griffin III. According to LATimes, Gruden consulted the two players before making the changes on Wednesday.

Gruden’s decision has come a little too late because it should have been made earlier to save Redskins from loosing three games in a row. Since McCoy is a quarterback just like Griffin, he is expected to fill the vacuum without any difficulties. As a matter of fact, his performance has already been put to the test in the recent past.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and that is why Redskins have decided to go against the grain by shelving Griffin. Tongues would have been left wagging if the changes were made in the days when Griffin was still a reliable quarterback.

The star has in deed made a name for himself. In 2012, Griffin was crowned the NFL Rookie of the Year Award.

The changes means that McCoy will be present during Sunday’s clash with Indianapolis Colts. McCoy is not new to the game. He has been in the field for 5 years and still counting. The player proved that he is a performer when he finished all his beginnings this year.

He was actually given a chance when Griffin was benched after suffering from a dislocated ankle.

Griffin has been struggling to make a comeback after tearing his ACL towards the end of the last season. He actually managed to convince the new coach that he was fit enough to return which caused McCoy to be sent back to the bench. Though Griffin tried his best, he only got 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions to make 589 yards.

The fans have been mounting pressure on Gruden to shelve Griffin. The fans argument was definitely justified because the star’s performance has declined. It can not be compared to the 815 yards broken down into 20 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 2012.

It’s not only the fans who were dissatisfied with Griffin’s performance. His team mates have reportedly been complaining about his performance and perhaps  Gruden decided to react to their calls to maintain harmony among his boys.
