By launching its own fitness tracker, Runtastic is going head to head with the “big guns” of the fitness wearable market.
The market for fitness trackers is saturating, but don’t count off Runtastic just yet, as the Austrian company has just announced its first wearable, dubbed Orbit. Runtastic is better known for its arsenal of fitness applications, available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry.
By launching its own fitness tracker, Runtastic is going head to head with the “big guns” of the industry like Nike, Fitbit, and Withings – some of which offer seamless integration with any of Runtastic’s apps. But for Runtastic, coming up with its own activity tracker is probably the best thing to do. I mean, why not?
For starters, the Runtastic Orbit tracks a user’s fitness activity and sleep cycle, particularly, the number of steps taken and calories burned. The wearable can also track goals, and it can function as an alarm too. Hardware-wise, the device features an OLED display, a clip, and a wristband. Athletes will also love its waterproof feature.
Additionally, Runtastic is introducing a new app called Runtastic Me which offers on-the-go tracking on your Android or iOS device. It should work perfectly with Orbit. Runtastic is now selling the Orbit online for $119.99.
