Sam Smith Undergoes Successful Vocal Cord Surgery

The Grammy Award-winning singer was battling with vocal cord hemorrhage

Sam Smith has undergone a vocal cord surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston which has been seemingly described successful and will result in the full recovery from the hemorrhage.

The hospital issued a press release regarding Smith’s surgery on Tuesday, expecting that the surgery will allow him to return to his full performance.

“Sam Smith underwent vocal cord microsurgery by Steven Zeitels, to stop recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage (bleeding). This condition is the result of unstable blood vessels in the vocal cord that can rupture and prevent vocal performance.” The press release said.

The news about Sam Smith vocal cord hemorrhage first came in few weeks ago when he was on the tour to Australia but had to cancel it half way through due to small hemorrhage on vocal cords. Doctor instructed him to take complete rest until his vocal cords are not properly healed and also warned him that the condition can become worse if necessary measures are not taken.

Later, he had to cancel his shows in Japan and Philippines as well because of the same issue. He also posted on the social site that he is on his way to United States to see a specialist there and to find out what to do next. 

On /4/7, Sam announced in a statement that his vocal cord has not recovered on its own and he needs a surgery to sort this problem out. He further said that it will take 6 to 8 months before he comes back to singing.

Sam Smith, who also turned 23 on Tuesday, is a Grammy Award-winning singer and is best known for his songs “Stay with Me”, “Money On My Mind” and“I’m Not The Only One”. The singer is expected to return to the live performances on July 18.

Dr Steven Zeitels, who has performed the surgery of Sam Smith, is renowned for his vocal cord surgical treatments and has successfully treated many singers before including Adele, Steven Tyler and Lionel Riche.
