Samsung denies getting paid-for fans for its Galaxy S6 launch event

A Shanghai-based news company claims Samsung paid people $4.80 an hour to attend the launch event in Shanghai, China

Do you think Samsung lacks as much customer support to the extent that it even ran out of a decent number of fans for its launch event of Galaxy S6? We wouldn’t think so too. But a report has recently accused the Korean giant for paying people to pose as fans at the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge launch event in Shanghai, China. Shanghai-based news company reported that almost half of the total 1,000 attendees were recruited and were paid US$4.80/hour.

Samsung has denied all such accusations in its latest statement and took to its blogpost to call The Paper’s report as “totally groundless and bogus”. Samsung, which is currently trying to figure out where this story emerged from, has in return accused The Paper that it “corroborated our findings and soon retracted the erroneous story.”

“Our findings have indicated that under no circumstances has anyone been hired or given money to attend the event. In fact, the more than 1,100 attendees, including consumers and industry officials, have all been formally invited to the Shanghai Culture Square where the event took place,” the company said.

Perhaps these allegations came from Samsung’s past record which we are sure the company isn’t so proud about. A similar case took place back in 2013 when the Korean tech giant was charged for paying students in Taiwan to post criticisms on HTC’s smartphones on the internet. Samsung had again denied these accusations and blamed all this drama on an external agency. In another case, an agency took responsibility where developers had been offered money for the promotion of Samsung in a community for app developers.
