The pre orders have started today in the US for both the tablets but the actual shipment is not expected to commence before July.
We have had our fair share of leaks and now it is finally Samsung’s turn to make the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Galaxy Tab S 8.4 official. Both the tablets are going to feature Super AMOLED screens of WQXGA resolution (2,560 x 1,600 pixels) which is going to generate a high pixel density. The benefit of these displays is not just the outstanding result in terms of contrast and colors but it also gives the benefit of being super slim. Both the tablets are merely 6.6mm thick and this explains why they are so lightweight.
As we can see from the name, the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is going to feature a 10.5 inch display and its resolution will be 288 ppi while on the other hand the 8.4 inch Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is going to be 359 ppi. Though the thickness of the two is the same, they do weigh differently with the 10.5 version being 465 grams (467 grams for the LTE version) and the Galaxy Tab 8.4 being just 294 grams (298 grams for the LTE unit).
Both these tablets are going to be offered with two varieties of chipsets. The LTE versions are going to feature a Snapdragon 800 chipset with a 2.3GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU. On the other hand the WiFi versions are going to be accompanied by Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa chipset with a quad 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 and quad 1.9GHz Cortex-A15. However, both these are going to have a 3 GB RAM.
As far as the storage is concerned, we are pleased that the options are the same for both the versions. Of course Samsung clearly understands the need to have higher storage spaces nowadays. Both versions will have options of either 16GB or 32GB flavors with a microSD card slot on board supporting up to 128GB cards. Don’t let the slimness of these slates fool you when it comes to battery sizes which are surprisingly pretty decent for both the versions; 10.5″ features a 7,900mAh Li-Ion battery and the 8.4″ has a 4,900mAh juice pack.
Moving on to the most interesting of the features on these slates, we simply cannot contain pour excitement at the aspect of these slates having a bunch of useful sensors. There is going to be an IR blaster on the side and a fingerprint scanner in the Home button and as we can tell, these two are the main stars worth mentioning here. If you look at the pictures, you might want to say that these slates remind you of the Galaxy S5 because they do have a fair share of resemblance from the current Samsung flagship. Lastly, both tablets are going to run on Android 4.4 KitKat and Samsung’s Magazine UX which means there are going to be a lot of additions for the UI including the Multi Window split-screen view, S Voice and an array of proprietary apps.
