Samsung gets a patent to a lightweight and slim fitness tracker

The device will use connection to a smartphone and can be attached with a clasp

It’s not always that we get to hear about upcoming products from proper official announcements. This time a patent description has led us to believe that Samsung is soon going to have a slim fitness tracker for us; at least this is what we can deduce from the patent which was awarded to the company on Tuesday. The filing describes it as a “mobile communications device” and shows a lightweight design with an obvious focus on health.

It has been a while since the patent was filed in March 2014 but we still haven’t gotten enough details on what Samsung is building for the health conscious. So far we can only take in hints from the description that details the product as “the ornamental design for a mobile communication device.” This clearly means that the device will be dependent upon a connection with a smartphone. The patent also made references to other fitness trackers such as Xiaomi’s Mi Band and some Jawbone UP models.

Some product sketches have also emerged and they help to get a better view of what might be in store for us. From the looks of these sketches, the device is going to be attached with a clasp and the size indicates that this place might hold all the sensitive chips and sensors.

There is another image which shows the band hanging from a loop and we are guessing that this was intended to deliver the idea that the watch might have some other uses too when it’s not sitting on the wrist. On the other perception, this could also only be a way of indicating that the watch can be stored away like that while it’s not in use.
