Samsung responds with own video To the Galaxy S6 Edge Bend Video

Samsung says the normal pressure applied to a phone is less than 110 pounds

There are only a few things in this world which are unbreakable and smartphones unfortunately aren’t one of them till yet. There might come a time when they resist almost any worldly force, but this era isn’t that time and we all have to face the hard truth; regardless of how much money we spend on our fancy smartphones, they are all prone to breaking or bending. This is pretty much understood, but the real question is how easily do our smartphones break. After the Bendgate scandal surrounding the iPhone 6, all eyes had been set at the Samsung Galaxy s6.

This is exactly what SquareTrade had set out to find out when they put the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge under their pressure machine. It was found that Samsung’s latest flagship could bend under 110 pounds of pressure which is the same pressure level under which the iPhone 6 gave way. This was only worse. Whereas the iPhone 6 Plus only ‘bent’ under such pressure, the Galaxy S6’s curved screen completely got smashed.

SquareTrade’s video gave a nice footage for this entire scenario but their ending has the Korean giant a little pissed off. The video was signed off with “so, is this bendgate 2? No. But for Samsung fans it /4/be worse, instead of a bent phone, they /4/have a pocket full of glass.”

Samsung surely couldn’t afford this kind of popularity for their latest flagship and they were quick to respond with a video of their own – full of justifications. Samsung says that the “normal force” applied to a smartphone by a consumer is less than 110 pounds. You are not alone if you think this sounds familiar because this is exactly how Apple had responded to its Bendgate issue.

“The video assumes a very specific condition – 110lbf (50kgf), which rarely occurs under normal circumstances. The normal force that generated when a person presses the back pocket is approximately 66lbf (30kgf). Our internal test results indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are not bendable even under 79lbf (32kgf), which is equivalent to putting pressure to snap a bundle of five pencils at once.” Said the official blog, Samsung Tomorrow.
