Samsung to supply DDR4 RAM for iPhone 6S and LG G4

Samsung to supply DDR4 for iPhone 6S and LG G4

DDR4 offers twice the density and I/O performance as compared to DDR3

Looks like Apple and Samsung are ready to bury the hatchet with their new move towards gluing in an important deal. Deals worth billions of dollars have been signed by Apple and LG with Samsung which is going to supply next-gen RAM modules for the companies’ upcoming flagships – the LG G4 and Apple iPhone 6S (or iPhone 7). The news has come out of KoreaTimes which hasn’t provided any details on the type of RAM which Samsung is going to be provided. Samsung however might have dropped some hint bombs already.

The Korean giant had recently made public its mass production of the next gen DDR4 RAM which is made with the 20nm process along with “stackable” 3 GB RAM/32 GB storage combo which is DDR3. However, we are pretty sure that Apple has inked its deal with Samsung for the DDR4 memory because if it’s for its upcoming flagship iPhone 7, then the fruit company isn’t really settling for anything less than that for sure.

The same goes for LG because its latest G Flex 2 is already put for pre orders and features the latest DDR4 RAM and its makes enough sense to think that LG is not going to equip its newer phones with the same rank.

This is what one industry source had to say about the recent developments;

“Under the agreement, Samsung will start providing LG Electronics with 100 percent mobile DRAM chips it needs for LG G4 smartphone, which will be unveiled in April. Also, Samsung will handle at least half of the amount that Apple needs for its new iPhone ― tentatively named iPhone 6S.”

It’s more likely that we will be seeing the DDR4 on the upcoming important flagships of the year. The hype about the next gen DDR4 is all about its density which is twice more than DDR3 and also the I/O performance. Moreover, Samsung’s offering comes with its frugal 20nm production method which makes it extra special.
