Scotland is voting today in a referendum on Scotland’s independence. The result will not be known until early morning Friday.
The future of the United Kingdom is at stake. Scotland could become an independent state if the Scots vote yes in the referendum on Scotland’s independence today. A record 97% of the electorate is registered to vote. It is expected that the voter turn out will be unprecedented.
Scotland is a member of the United Kingdom since 1707. The Scots could make history today. Nobody knows the outcome yet as the Yes and No camp are extremely close. Polling stations are open until 10pm. This means that results of the referendum on Scotland’s independence are not expected to be released until the early morning hours.
The BBC reports that the Chief Counting Office Mary Piccaithly will likely announce the results somewhen between 6:30 and 7:30am. First indications on the result could already be expected between 3 and 6am BST.
