- After being off the scene for a whole year, Selena has stepped back with the new, emotional music video.
- The lyrics are inspired by her heartbreak and it’s the same heart broken by Justin Bieber.
Selena Gomez new music video “The Heart Wants what it Wants” is super emotional. Justin Bieber has commented on Twitter that the video actually made him teary and he almost cried when he saw Selena cry.
Selena took some off time for herself this year while she hung out with her best friends Taylor Swift and Kendell Jenner and receiving awards such as the Teen Choice Award for Ultimate Teen Choice but we were sure missing Selena’s magical music which she had spun last year with her super-hit track “Come and Get it.” The video went viral on its release and everyone was singing the tune. Then came her most successful album till yet and Selena went on a hiatus from the music scene.
After a whole year (almost), Selena is back. Her music video “The Heart Wants what it Wants” is like nothing you have seen Selena in before. If you thought A Year without Rain was emotional then The Heart Wants video will blow your mind. Shot in black and white, the video features Selena getting dressed up and heading out with a fake smile.
What breaks your heart is the way she tries to hide her tears all along the video and it is indeed very emotional, the pain jumps at you and overwhelms you. Playing her beau in the video is Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood). The actor delivers the cold lovers part perfectly as he puts his arms around Selena and ignores her half the time.
The middle of the song is a montage of happy times between the couple which makes Selena regret the heart ache more as she remembers all the special times she shared with him. The all cute, bubbly Disney star didn’t smile genuinely in the video once and that broke our hearts as it is.
At the end of the songs she just walks away from everything and heads out. In the simplest motions, the song was given the most brilliant meaning. The format is somewhat already seen in Hilary Duff’s “Stranger” but where Stranger was creepy and hateful, The Heart Wants is emotional and somber.
What took the song to extreme emotions? Selena’s teary voice over at the start. ”When I was on stage and I was thinking of… I felt like I know him though and I know his heart and I know what he wouldn’t do to hurt me, but I didn’t realize that feeling so confident and feeling so great about myself, and then it just be completely shattered by one thing by something so stupid… but then he made me feel crazy and he made me feel like its my fault. I was in pain.”
Her voice broke at the end and the song starts but the lines just sticks to you through the whole song and you feel the pain she was talking about. You can’t help but actually cry when you see her cry. Maybe it affected someone else too. Justin Bieber, whom many believe is the inspiration behind the song, tweeted that he saw the video and it made him cry when he saw Selena cry. He also tweeted that he loved the song but it made him cry.
