Nichelle Nichols had a mild stroke Wednesday night at her home in Los Angeles. Medical reports indicate that veteran actress is in satisfactory condition
Actress Nichelle Nichols, best known for her work in Star Trek, is recovering from stroke she suffered Wednesday night.
Nichelle Nichols is in stable condition and had a “MINOR stroke, her booking manager Zach McGinnis said in a statement on Friday. “Last night Nichelle remained alert, and cheerful.” He added and appreciated the amount of love and support she received from her fans all over the world.
Nichelle Nichols suffered a stroke at her home in Los Angeles, a post on her official website revealed on Thursday. It was also told that she will undergo tests to determine the nature of the stroke which was seemingly a mild one.
Later, it was updated by her manager that “Nichelle Nichols has had both a CAT scan and MRI today. The CAT scan came back negative and we are awaiting the results from MRI. She is awake, eating, in good spirits and able to have full conversations.”
The right side of her body lacked mobility but her condition was declared not too serious and there were no signs of paralysis as well.

The 82-year old Nichols played Lt.Uhura in the hit NBC series “Star Trek from 1966 to 1969 and then in the 1979 film Star Trek and the subsequent installments. She was one of the first African-American women to play a significant role in a television series. Before that, they were mostly seen in roles of maids or domestics.
Martin Luthar King, the activist and the leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement, also praised her work on the series and called it “the first non-stereotypical role portrayed by a black woman in television history.”
Earlier this year, Leonard Nimoy, the fellow cast member of Star Trek died of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease.
