- Marion ‘Suge’ Knight hires Michael Jackson’s attorney to delay his California murder trial!
Marion ‘Suge’ Knight has hired the attorney Tom Mesereau to defend him against murder charges.
The one time rap mogul Marion ‘Suge’ Knight accused of a double homicide has changed his attorney for the fourth time since the murder case against him began. This time Knight has hired the attorney Tom Mesereau who was the attorney of Michael Jackson when he was accused of child molestation a decade ago.
Tom Mesereau was famous for having defended the late pop star Michael Jackson during the 2005 child molestation trials in Santa Barbara, California leading to his acquittal.
On Friday Knight officially appointed Mesereau as his attorney by replacing his previous attorney Matthew Fletcher. Garbed in the orange prison jumpsuit 50 years old Knight appeared in the Los Angeles Superior Court along with Mesereau for a brief hearing.
During the briefing Mesereau told the judge he needs more time to properly represent his client Knight in the proceedings, so Mesereau can contemplate what the right next move would be in the case.
As a result of Mesereau’s request the date for the next hearing has been set for the 7th of July but Knight still has a bail of about $10 million on him, according to Reuters.
Knight has been charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of murder and for a hit-and-run in one incident. The incident occurred outside a burger shop in Compton, L.A. where the co-founder of the Death Row Records Knight killed two men by running them over in his car.
Knight is also being charged in another case where he is accused of robbery and making terror threats and is scheduled to appear in court again for the theft case in Beverly Hills. If convicted in either case Knight could face a sentence of 25 years in prison.
