CBS green lights the series adaptation of the DC Comics Supergirl!

The series Supergirl has officially been picked up by the network CBS since the chairman loved the pilot. Supergirl will be a strong female driven series and will follow the story of Zor-El, the cousin of the famous Superman, who escaped Kryptonite during the destruction.

Supergirl has been hiding her powers ever since she came to earth but at the age of 24 she decides to become the hero she was always meant to be rather than hide her powers.

The series will be made by Greg Berlanti the executive producer of two superhero projects Arrow and Flash already airing. Ali Adler will also be writing and executively producing Supergirl along with Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter.

The main character of Supergirl aka Kara Zor-El will be played the Glee actress Melissa Benoist, while main cast members include actors such as Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks and David Harewood. Other stars that appeared as guests in the pilot episode include Laura Benanti, Dean Cain and Helen Slater.

The drama Supergirl is slated to air on CBS and it does raise the question if viewers will be pleased by the DC comic story since they the viewership is largely made up of NCIS and Criminal Minds fans.

The exact time of the broadcasting of Supergirl is not yet revealed while some sources claim it will be aired in fall or mid-season of this year. The official confirmation /4/come from CBS itself during the official presentation in New York next week.

Even though Supergirl will be airing on the parent network CBS rather than on CW, Berlanti has announced on records the heroine drama will exist in the same universe as Arrow and Flash, reported EW. We can certainly imagine some epic cross overs between the three superheros.
