Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir Will Be NBC’s Lead Broadcast Team in 2018 Winter Olympic Games
Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir have been chosen by NBC Sports group to be in charge of skating broadcast during the Winter Olympic games that have been scheduled for 2018. According to Holywoodreporter, the duo will work together with Terry Gannon. Terry’s job will be to assume the role of a play-by-play announcer. The statement was made last Wednesday by NBC sports producer, Jim Bell on Today.
The threesome team is best suited for the job because Johnny has won the US figure skating for three times in a row. Lipinski actually won a gold medal in the 1998 Olympic games. Prior to the team’s selection, the job was previously reserved for Tom Hammond, Scott Hamilton, and Sandra Bezic. It seems that NBC sports is committed to bringing in fresh blood into the arena. However, they have retained Hamilton. This is probably because he is the longest serving sports commentator having been appointed back in 2002.
Perhaps NBC settled for Tara and Weir because they had successfully represented the company during Kentucky Derby back in /4/where they acted as fashion police for the network. Weir stated that he is eagerly waiting to get started. “I am so honored to be part of the NBC family, and I hope to bring figure skating and Olympics into America’s living rooms for many years to come,” said Weir.
“I could not have asked for a better first experience than in Sochi and along with my broadcast partners Tara and Terry. I can not wait to start a fresh new era of commentary and analysis that will entertain and inform. I love my sport and i can’t wait to go on more Olympic journeys!”
Tara was thankful for being picked by NBC and stated that this is not the first time to work for the network. She also acknowledged the performance of her peers, Johnny and Terry. “NBC gave us an opportunity of a lifetime in Sochi. I could not be more excited to continue with this journey,” Lipinski said. My goal is to continue educating, entertaining and bringing the incredible sport of figure skating to a new generation of fans. It is an honor to be part of an Olympics. I cannot wait to begin and i’m lucky to have my talented co-pilots Johnny and Terry by my side. Being a part of this is a combination of all of my favorite things and I look forward to the adventures in the future ahead.”
Gannon argued that it’s high time he upped his game to match with the new pair. He actually termed them as unpredictable and updated on the current trends. ” I am thrilled to have the opportunity to cover skating at the highest level on NBC with partners that are informative, unpredictable and so uniquely stylish…Time to upgrade my wardrobe,” said Terry.
