Tesla has revealed the world’s first dual-electric car. The updated Model S comes has a new set of safety and autopilot hardware, including motors on every axle that effectively controls torque on the front and row wheels. Unlike traditional gasoline-powered cars, the new Model S has a Dual Motor propulsion system that increases driving efficiency  and traction in slippery conditions.

Tesla also divided the delivery of current from the battery to the four motors to gain an additional 10 miles of highway driving range. Another killer feature of Tesla’s new car, the Model S P85D in particular, is its ability to go from 0 to 60mph in 3.2 seconds, beating the standing start record of the McLaren F1.

Not only that. Tesla is also introducing a new hardware package that enables autopilot functionality. You’ll also get a forward radar, 12 long-range ultrasonic sensors, a forward-looking camera, and a new digitally-controlled braking system.

All of these technologies deliver a wide-range safety features. For example, the car now steers within a lane, change lanes with a simple tap of a turn signal, and control speed by reading road signs. Tesla says that the goal is not to promote driverless cars. Rather, the autopilot system is designed to relieve drivers of the most boring and potentially dangerous aspects of road travel. The driver is still responsible for the car, the company said.

Other notable improvements include a wider rear door opening, a quieter cabin, increased visor size, larger vanity mirror, and updates to the steering column control module and  Alcantara interior trim. The seats are also more comfortable and an air ionizer and carbon filter have been added to purify the air.

There are three versions of Tesla’s Dual Motor Model S: 60D, 85D, and P85D. Interested buyers can order a model starting today. Deliveries of the top-end P85D will be in December. The 85D and 60D will follow in February.
