The band deletes individual and group social media accounts.

Rumors are running rampant this morning that the British indie band The 1975 are breaking up. The Band, which has a large teen  and underground following gave no reason for deleting any of their social media accounts, and it it sending fans into a panic. Some fans think that the band are just doing this for publicity, but according to The Guardian, there is no real proof of that happening either.

They deleted the accounts a mere 24 hours after front man Matthew Healy posted a cryptic comic strip on Twitter and Instagram. The comic that was either made by the band of found somewhere, is still available on The 1975’s manager Jamie Oborne’s Twitter feed. The image talks about changing their “projected identity” both visually and philosophically.

As you can see, strip contains a jab at the NME, featuring a magazine entitled Nihilistic Musical Expression, as well as a black-clad figure labelled “Old Matty” and a pink person labelled “New Matty.” While we aren’t sure what they mean, there might be some truth in the words:“Until then there won’t be any pop music or dancing with long hair,” a sentence reads, indicating a possible hiatus. The intent of the post becomes more ominous, musically at least, toward the end, with lines like: “The hardest part of any relationship is to say ‘goodbye’” and the concluding sentence: “So we must leave, with a parting ‘we love you’ — we are already gone.”

The sad truth is that until the band reveals what it is that’s going on, all we can do is guess. As their first album went #1 and they have already recorded bits for their second album, it seems a shame that breaking up would even be an option.
