Apple’s retail boss told its team that customers cannot buy an Apple Watch in Apple Stores until end of May.

A leaked internal letter from Angela Ahrendts, SVP Retail and Online Stores to her retail team confirms that there will be no Apple Watch inventory in Apple Stores at sales launch April 24th. She continues that consumers should expect that to be the situation until end of May. All Apple Watch orders need to be made online.

This kind of information should be actually delivered through official means. Apple consumers should know that the online only pre-order is not a temporary thing. Apple will continue this until end of /4/and maybe longer. The internal letter leaked first on French iGen site.

Ahrendts arguments are rather weak from a business standpoint. She argues that the Apple Watch is a new product and it is very personal. The supply situation must be really grim and it is just not worth it for Apple to setup a typical Apple product in-store launch day. She said in the letter that these crazy days are not dead and other new products will have the traditional launch in Apple Stores with long lines and everything.

If consumers did not order an Apple Watch yet online there is only the 3rd party market left to get an Apple Watch before June. On Ebay the Apple Watch Sports models that ship on April 24 sell for $760, which is almost double the retail price. Watch that have a /4/shipping time frame are offered around $600.

Despite the complexity and the reported performance issues, it is estimated by analysts that Apple generated over 2.3 million Apple Watch pre-orders.
