Tiger Woods has confessed to having some sleepless nights lately.
According to ESPN senior golf writer Jason Sobel, Woods has had bouts of insomnia because of lingering thoughts of his father’s death and his recent breakup with skier Lindsey Vonn. Woods and Vonn split up on Sunday after an almost three-year relationship.

Vonn wrote a statement regarding the breakup on her official Facebook page on /4/4:
“After nearly three years together, Tiger and I have mutually decided to end our relationship. I will always cherish the moments that we’ve created together.
“Unfortunately, we both lead incredibly hectic lives that force us to spend the majority of our time apart. I will always admire and respect Tiger. He and his beautiful family will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Woods followed suit on his official website on Sunday:
“Lindsey and I have mutually decided to stop dating.
“I have great admiration, respect and love for Lindsey and I’ll always cherish our time together. She has been amazing with (Woods’ children) Sam and Charlie and my entire family.
“Unfortunately, we lead very hectic lives and are both competing in demanding sports. It’s difficult to spend time together.”

Sunday also marked Earl Woods’ ninth death anniversary
Woods told Sobel on Tuesday the ordeal has been tough for him:
“It is tough. There is no doubt. I’m not going to lie about that. It is tough. And on top of that, this time of year is really, really hard on me.
“This three-day window is really hard. I haven’t slept these three days, /4/3rd and through the 5th, today, is just brutal on me. And then with obviously what happened on Sunday, it just adds to it.
“Once you’re inside the ropes, it’s time to tee it up and time to play. You go out there, and for me I focus, I get into my little world, my little zone and do the best I possibly can for that — well, it used to be four hours; now it’s five-hour rounds — a five-hour period, grind it out and win golf tournaments.

“Because at the end, to me, that’s what I want to do that particular week, is win a tournament.”
Sobel says Woods will make his first tournament appearance since placing just 17th in last month’s Masters. He hopes to rebound after that sub-par performance when he competes in the 42nd edition of THE PLAYERS Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.:
“I’d like to say yes. I’ve had some pretty good practice sessions. My short game still feels really good. We made a couple little swing tweaks since then to keep improving, to keep working on it, to keep getting it better, so that part is still a little bit fresh.
“I’m going to start playing a little bit more now since I’m in some of these events now, not like last week. I’m able to start playing a regular schedule now and start getting after it.”

Sobel notes Woods “looked rusty” during practice. Nonetheless, the latter said the wrist injury he sustained during the ninth hole of this year’s Masters has begun to heal significantly:
“It’s fine. I took a full week, didn’t lift at all. I did leg stuff but just didn’t do anything with my hand. Completely got away from it, anything with lifting or grabbing.
“I was getting treatment every day through that period, and then after that started building up the strength in the hand and the forearm and then eventually the whole upper body.”
Mark Soitau of TigerWoods.com says this will be Woods’ 17th start at THE PLAYERS. He won the tournament in 2001 and 2013, making him one of just six players to record multiple wins. He did not participate in 2014 because of his back injury.
Woods told Soitau he will take part in five tournaments in the summer of 2015.
