FOX Sports reported on April 19 that quarterback Tim Tebow is set to return to the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, per multiple reports. Tebow will sign a one-year deal on Monday, April 20.

Tim Tebow is back in the NFL.

FOX Sports‘ Jay Glazer first reported Tebow’s comeback via Twitter on April 19. The Philadelphia Eagles will sign him on Monday in time for their offseason workout regimen:

A separate FOX Sports update indicates the Eagles want to sign a fourth quarterback for the said offseason program. Philadelphia spent some time with Tebow’s quarterbacks coach Tom House and liked the improvement they saw in him.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport (via NFL.com’s Kevin Patra) and ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter’s league source confirmed Tebow’s plan of signing with the Eagles. Philadelphia currently has Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, Matt Barkley and G.J. Kinne.

Schefter says Tebow will sign a one-year deal with the Eagles. He arrived in Philadelphia on Sunday evening in time for the team’s offseason workouts.

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane describes Tebow’s chances of earning a regular-season roster spot as slim:

“If Tebow is to have any chance of making the Eagles’ 53-man roster his best chance is winning the third quarterback spot behind Bradford and Sanchez. That is assuming, of course, Kelly doesn’t draft a quarterback. Barkley’s grip on the third spot is nowhere near secure.

(Eagles head coach Chip) Kelly prefers multi-positional players and could be swayed to keeping Tebow if he can perform other tasks. The Eagles’ offense has plenty of flexibility for mobile quarterbacks.

“Still, Tebow’s odds are long.”

Kelly told NFL Network (via FOX Sports) last month he’s always liked Tebow’s game:

“I’ve always been a fan of Tim. We bring in a lot of players for private workouts, it’s just he’s the one that everyone keeps talking about. We brought in Terrelle Pryor for a workout and Thad Lewis in for a workout.

“When players are available for you to work them out, it’s the same thing of going to the veteran combine or going to the super regional combine.”

The Eagles wanted to trade Barkley before they brought Tebow in, per Schefter. When they couldn’t get a deal done, they decided to sign Tebow, anyway.

Tebow is coming off a three-year hiatus. The Eagles brought him in for a workout in March, per FOX Sports.

By playing for the Eagles, Tebow will be reunited with his former New York Jets teammate Mark Sanchez, per ESPN. Tebow’s last regular-season game was with the Jets in 2012.

Since his last snap in the league, Tebow has been working out diligently with House, per Schefter. During his NFL hiatus, Tebow had been working as an ESPN college football and SEC football television analyst.

He came close to returning to the NFL in 2013 but completed just 11 of 30 passes for two touchdowns and three interceptions in three preseason games with the New England Patriots, who eventually released him, per ESPN.

The 27-year-old Tebow has amassed 3,411 all-purpose yards, 29 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 35 regular-season games for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets, per ESPN stats
