The top 10 most stolen cars in the USA include quite a few cool models that are coveted by crafty thieves.

Car thefts are becoming ever more common with each passing day. The bad element in society that seeks to appropriate the vehicular means of others has wreaked havoc.

Often these sneaky pilferers have methods of going on joyrides and then making off with the car if they can do so. Some of the most expert criminals have formed gangs where training is given to novices in the fine art of motor misuse.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) issued its annual “Hot Wheels” report that includes all the vehicle theft data submitted by law enforcement to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and determines the vehicle make, model and model year most reported stolen in 2013.

Among the top ten cars that are stolen in the USA each year included the following:

1. Honda Accord

This has a total of 53,995 thefts in its record.

2. Honda Civic

Then there comes its cousin, the Honda Civic which has 45,001 total thefts to its credit.

3. Chevrolet Pickup

The Chevrolet Pickup has 27,809 cases of being snatched and stolen.

4. Ford Pickup

The Ford Pickup has a tally of 26,494 vanishings.

5. Toyota Camry

Halfway we find the Toyota Camry which has 14,420 purloined reportages.

6. Dodge Pickup

The Dodge Pickup has a number which goes up to 11,347.

7. Dodge Caravan

Then there comes the Dodge Caravan which has 10,911 units which get whisked away to some other unknown spot.

8. Jeep Cherokee

The Jeep Cherokee has 9,272 cases of theft.

9. Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla has 9,010 thefts under its rubric.

10. Nissan Altima

And last but not least the Nissan Altima has 8,892 total theft units in its repertoire.

Thus what this proves is not that these cars ought to be avoided as regards purchase, but that some insurance and lock schemes ought to be implemented so that the possibility of theft is ruled out altogether.

There are companies that will gladly insure your car and they also pay up should something untoward occur. As far as lock systems are concerned they have thankfully gone biometric.

Now you can personalize the lock systems and thus enjoy individualized access to the entry way into your car or jeep. This is a blessing and a boon.

You then don’t need to excessively worry since first of all your vehicle will not get stolen thanks to the theft-proof lock. And even if it does, you will have it insured so you can sleep tight knowing that you will get the necessary money in lieu of the stolen vehicle.

“The drop in thefts is good news for all of us,” said NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. “But it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year. That’s why we applaud the vehicle manufacturers for their efforts to improve anti-theft technology and pledge to continue to work with our insurance company members and law enforcement to identify and seek vigorous prosecution of the organized criminal rings responsible for so many of these thefts.”

The NICB also released the following list of the top 10 model year vehicles stolen in calendar year 2013:

  1. Nissan Altima (810)
  2. Ford Fusion (793)
  3. Ford Pickup Full Size (775)

  5. Chevrolet Impala (654)
  6. Hyundai Elantra (541)
  7. Dodge Charger (536)
  8. Chevrolet Malibu (529)
  9. Chevrolet Cruze (499)
  10. Ford Focus (483)
