Cosmopolitan released the top 50 of Internet’s Most Fascinating people and animals.
Cosmopolitan today released the Internet’s Most Fascinating list, a first-of-its-kind collection and celebration of the 50 people (and animals) on the Internet who we, as a culture, obsess over both on social media and in real life.
“Celebrity is changing as rapidly as every other major industry — news media, music, television — the Internet has wildly disrupted,” said Amy Odell, editor of Cosmopolitan.com in her editorial note introducing the list. “The next Rihanna could quietly be racking up subscribers on her YouTube channel. The next Jennifer Lawrence could currently be churning out seven-second comedy sketches on Vine. […] Each day, these people accrue thousands upon thousands of new followers — which might be a better word for “fan” nowadays — because, for one reason or other, the Internet finds them fascinating.”
From Michelle Phan, Cute Emergency, Jimmy Fallon and T-Swift to “Human Barbie,” six-year-old comedian Cece Price and Waffles the cat (with 1.7 million Facebook fans), what all honorees have in common are staggering numbers of highly engaged followers and the ability to whip them into a froth with the tap of a share button. Cosmopolitan.com’s first-ever compilation of the Internet’s Most Fascinating includes:
Michelle Phan – YouTube beauty mogul, “Human Barbie” Valeria Lukyanova, Jimmy Fallon, Nicki Minaj, Priscilla & Poppleton – glamorous pig siblings, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Taylor Swift, Baddie Winkle – 86-year-old Instagram star, 16-year-old Mormon model Lucky Blue Smith, Amber Rose, Emma Watson, Elliot Tebele – the man behind wildly popular Instagram account Fuckjerry, Waffles the Scottish Fold cat, Jessica Williams – The Daily Show correspondent, Bethany Mota – YouTube phenom, Jazz Jennings – transgender teenager and LGBTQ activist and many more.
The Cosmo team has categorized the top 50 internet stars into Headliners, Warriors, BAMFS, Wunderkinds and iCandy.
