Tribeca Film Festival gets underway in New York

A documentary about “Saturday Night Live” was shown on the opening day of the festival

Tribeca Film Festival began in New York on Wednesday night. According to a report of BBC, the festival opened with “Live from New York, a documentary providing a new broad view about late night comedy sketch show “Saturday Night Live”. The documentary, directed by Bao Nguyen, explores the cultural and policitcal impact of SNL which has been running for 40 years on NBC. Current cast such as Kate McKinnon and Bobby Moynihan were also present at the premier of the documentary. Rapper Chris Bridges also made a performance at the end of the showing.

Tribeca Film Festival, which was founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosanthal and Craig Hatkoff, was started back in 2002. The festival includes documentaries, shorts and feature length narrative films as well as the panel discussions with the personalities associated with the entertainment world. 

The festival will continue the next 10 days and will close on 26th April with the premastered print of Martin Scorese’s film “Goodfellas”, as a celebration of 25th anniversary of the film. The screening will be followed by a discussion session with the cast and crew of the film.

Other highlights of the festival includes the premiere of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s zombie movie “Maggie”, a thriller “The Survivalist” directorial debut of cinematographer Reed Moreno “Meadowland” and the international premiere of Michael Winterbottom’s “The Emperor’s New Clothes”.

The concert of Mary G. Blige and talks with various personalities like George Lucas, Amy Schumer, Courtney Love and Christopher Nolan will also be the feature of the festival.
