So now you can send messages to anyone on Twitter and you don’t even need to be following them.

So Twitter users know that previously you were not able to send messages to anyone who you weren’t following. But all of that is now about to be changed by Twitter as they have decided that anyone can send messages to anyone.

This is just like Facebook as you don’t need to be friends with someone to send them messages on Facebook. No one knows why Twitter didn’t allow this in the first place but now they have changed their policy and now you can send messages to people you are not following.

So now users will have the option to allow other users and companies to message them. They will need to go to their setting option and opt to allow direct messages. And the users will be able to reply with a direct message to the sender.

If someone starts abusing you, you can still block them or if they are sending you spam messages, you can certainly block them with ease. Twitter announced this new change in their blog post on their website.

According to the blog post, you can now receive direct messages from anyone you don’t follow. You can also update messaging rules so that you can reply to anyone who sends you a message.

There is also a new direct message button on profile pages on Android and iPhone. Those people that allow other people to send them messages, their profiles will have a direct message button on it.

A Twitter post said that now using these direct messages users can make public conversation more private. Twitter said that these new changes will allow more people to connect. You will also be able to connect with companies you care about while feeling safe.

Twitter is competing with WhatsApp who claim that their users send 30 billion messages each day. Whereas Twitter said that their users send out 500 million tweets per day. The Facebook Messenger app is also growing very fast and it now has 500 million users.
