The U.S. is about to sign a military pact with the Philippines that would allow Yankee troops to circulate in the archipelago. This fact has been affirmed by President Obama who will soon be making a state visit to the Far Eastern country. President Obama has now arrived in Philippines.

President Obama has implicitly confirmed the fact that the Philippines is a staunch ally of the United States. He spoke about how the Americans stood behind their friends in good times as well as bad times.

The Filipinos have been engaged in a dispute with China over the South China Sea that separates the two countries. Several other nations which include Vietnam and Thailand are also squabbling with China regarding their overlapping territorial rights over the waterways.

China has become a little too intimidating in its aggressive stance in the region. And the United States wants to impose its hegemony in the Asiatic area as a part of Obama’s strategy for the future.

The Philippines faces a threat from its larger neighbor, China. That is why the United States wants to have a military presence in the region. It is a ten year pact that will be signed between the two nations.

However, Evan Medeiros, Obama’s top Asia adviser, told Reuters, “We’re not doing this because of China.”

President Obama meanwhile is on a tour of the region. He has visited South Korea among a list of other nations. And now he arrives in the Philippines.

While, China has not exactly been threatened in any way by the United States, it has been requested with dignity to tone down its belligerent moves in the region.

The military exercises that the US will undertake in the Philippines will help the two nations in beefing up their joint security. And a re-equilibrium of the power shift in the locus that is the Far East is of the utmost importance in current times.

Naval warships and troops are to find their way into the region as per this agreement. There are some elements in the Philippines who are against this pact. But the majority is clearly in its favor.
