Company says the phone will be used for handling on-board payments, manuals & more
The iPhone 6 Plus is making its way to the United Airlines which has just announced that it will provide the 5.5 inch phone to all its flight attendants for the purpose of servicing customers. This change is going to take place from the second quarter of the next year when Apple’s phablet will be given to the flight attendants. It will be used for the onboard retail transactions and will be able to access the company’s email as well as the website. The attendants would be allowed to look into the internal network and view airline manuals for details on policies and procedures.
According to the United Airlines, this move is going to help the company to move away from the paper safety manuals in the future since they will all be available on the iPhone. And ultimately, the 5.5 inch phablet would be used for all such things as reporting aircraft cabin issues and receiving follow-up information on repairs.
Sam Risoli, United’s senior vice president of inflight services says “We are thrilled to make this investment in our flight attendants. iPhone 6 Plus will enable them to deliver an even higher level of flyer-friendly service and will offer our flight attendants simple, one-touch access to valuable work information, enabling them to better serve our customers.”
The company is also looking forward to developing multiple “customer-focused tools” for the iPhone 6 Plus after it will be deployed to the on-board staff. Part of the announcement was the company’s renewal of its iPad pilot program which has been done using the iPad Air 2. The company has been calling this “a move toward creating paperless aircraft and flight decks.”
