Billy Ray Cyrus, father of Miley Cyrus, honored a slain Nevada math teacher by calling him a “hero.” He also presented his widow a memorial plaque and gave her financial aid too.
Billy Ray Cyrus called slain Michael Landsberry a “hero” on Saturday night during his concert in Incline Village. Michael Landsberry was an ex-Marine and a math teacher at school.
A 12-year-old student killed the Nevada school teacher last fall during a shooting incident. Prior to teaching, Michael Landsberry, served thrice in Afghanistan.
The singer of the hit song, Achy Breaky Heart, was really shocked by his killing. He called him “a true American hero” in his concert on July 5th. Cyrus told the audiences that Landsberry “made the ultimate sacrifice to save his students.”

Michael Landsberry was killed last October while trying to convince a school student, who already wounded his two classmates, to drop his gun and surrender. But the student shot him in chest and also killed himself after that.
In addition to his wife, Landsberry is survived by two daughters. Thanking Cyrus, Landsberry’s widow said, “We all love him today. … He lives within all of us.”
The father of Miley Cyrus honored the slain teacher by giving his widow, Sharon, a financial gift and memorial plaque. Billy Ray Cyrus also sung his song “Some Gave All” to salute the courage of the brave teacher.
