Facebook adds Anonymous Login feature and better privacy controls

Facebook is bringing more power and control into the hands of its users.

At Facebook F8 today, the world’s number one social network announced three new features that promises to offer better privacy controls to its billions of users.

First is Anonymous Login, a new login method that lets users log into apps anonymously. Think of going incognito on Google Chrome.

“Anonymous Login lets people log in to apps so they don’t have to remember usernames and passwords, but it doesn’t share personal information from Facebook,” the company said.

The second nifty feature is the improved Facebook login. Specifically, users can now choose which data to share with a specific application. Users can uncheck categories such as their birthday, email address, and Facebook friend list. The new Facebook Login also won’t post to Facebook without permission, the company said in a statement.

Lastly, Facebook is rolling out a redesigned app control panel which will display a clear list of Facebook-connected apps. Users can manage apps and permissions in the new dashboard. There will also be a section for apps that are using the Anonymous Login feature.

Facebook will roll out these features in the coming weeks or months.
