Back in year 2010 we were all informed about the mysterious barge project of Google which ended without any public explanations. However, from what we have heard from the rumors, these barges were to be used like a moving showroom for Android, Chrome OS and Google Glass. Some recent reports have Google claiming that the project had to be put to an end because the Coast Guard kept nagging Google to add more safety precautions to the barge. These safety measures were to be ensured since the barges had more than 5,000 gallons of fuel on the main deck.
However, Google decided not to cooperate with the Coast Guard and ultimately it gave up on the project. At this point we cannot be sure of everything since the leaked messages don’t show all the information. There can be a possibility that for some reason Google might not have been able to display the relevant safety concerns needed to past the Coast Guard’s tests.
The exchange of messages started in Mar. 2013 when the Coast Guard had revealed that Google was carrying a large amount of fuel on the barges and the company also failed to provide relevant safety information. The messages kept on going till February of this year and Google finally decided to scrap the project. Though nothing has been confirmed by either of the two parties, but this is the only reasonable thing that explains what might have happened to the project and why it was cancelled.
