Yankees Have Sold Francisco Cervelli to Pirates in a Trade Arrangement
Francisco Cervelli will not be playing for New York Yankees any more. Fansidedhas reported that the catcher has now been sold to Pittsburgh Pirates in a trade in arrangement.
On the other hand, Pirates has handed Justin Wilson over to Yankees. The two teams therefore benefited equally from the trade because the two players are ranked among the best in their respective teams.
Cervelli got 301 bats, 2 homers and 13 RBI. The twenty eight year old player has so far participated in 49 matches this year. However, he missed 50 matches in 2013 due to a suspension that was granted after being linked to Biogenesis scandal.
From the look of things, Yankees got the best deal because Wilson has played 70 matches this year only and so he is ahead of Cervelli by 21 games.
Wilson recorded 60 innings and 28 runs. Besides that, he got 61 strikeouts and 49 hits. Prior to getting Cervelli, Pirates are said to have been looking to enter into a contract with Russell Martin.
Media reports have alleged that their efforts have been overlooked since the signing of Cervelli, something the management has strongly opposed.
Since Cervelli is on board, Pirates have nothing to loose even if they will not get Russell. This is because the two players are talented catchers and so the catcher is enough to keep them going.
Russell will definitely give Pirates a run for their money. The catcher has been pushing for a five year contract at $75 million.
Pirates have nothing to worry about even if Cervelli does not perform to their expectations because there are many options out there.
There are actually several good players that are yet to be signed by any team. They include the likes of John Buck and Ryan Doumit. Their performance speak for themselves.
