The phone with two fronts is now better and cheaper.
Yota Devices, the creator of the YotaPhone, is announcing an updated version of its one-of-a-kind dual-display smartphone. The YotaPhone 2, its second-generation mobile device, now has a white version, adding a new color option for those who prefer white over black.
Basically, the new YotaPhone 2 reverses the color scheme of the previous model, leaving its front colored in black. In addition to the new color, the YotaPhone 2 has an array of enhancements and new features.
Specifically, the phone now features the company’s YETI (Yota E Ink Technology Integration) user interface, which comes with new widgets and apps including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. These apps, for example, will refresh on their own, giving you real-time updates, without turning opening its front screen.
The main idea behind the dual-display technology is to minimize battery consumption. The rear screen uses an E-ink display. This low-power screen is always on, which means that you won’t have to open your front display to get important updates such as email or text messages.
But perhaps the biggest update of the YotaPhone 2 is its price. The phone now sells for £440 or €599—significantly cheaper than its previous price of £555. Yota Devices is planning to launch the phone in the United States by launching an Indiegogo campaign, which could fund a release in July.
