You Can Pay With Your Jawbone

Jawbone and American Express have joined together to offer a new “pay on the go” option.

People wear their Jawbone devices wherever they go, so why not use it to pay for their groceries or protein shakes? Jawbone and American Express have done just that: American Express users can simply tap to pay with the newJawbone UP4™ fitness tracker anywhere American Express contactless payments can be used in the United States. These fitness trackers have an implanted NFC chip that allows them to work.

“In partnership with Jawbone, a leader in advanced fitness trackers, we have created a seamless payment experience all in the tap of a wrist,” Leslie Berland, the executive vice president, Digital Partnerships and Development at American Express, said. “We believe this unique technology will delight our active, digitally-savvy Card Members in a powerful way and drive a new type of engagement at hundreds of thousands of merchant locations nationwide.”

The look of the device is similar to the look and feel of the Jawbones in previous generations, offering step counting, sleep monitoring, and heart monitoring. The device will also connect to the Jawbone app, which will allow the user to control payments and monitor spending.
