Youtube Can't Keep Up With The Gangnam Style

The famous Gangnam Style video took the internet by storm and now Youtube needs to be updated in order to show up the correct number of views as its only using 32-bit integer

The concept of globalization surely wouldn’t have been the same without the advancement in technology, for all that we have learned from other cultures without even setting foot outside our national boundaries is all due to the technology. A simple click on Youtube lets you experience a few minutes or seconds into someone else’s world and such are the things which define the differences between today’s generations and the ones that have gone past.

PSY’s Gangnam Style (강남스타일) was more or less an addition to this concept of the world being a global village. On Youtube alone, this video has been viewed more than 2 billion times and we all remember the time when it took the internet by a storm. This literally broke the viewer counter and now Youtube is working to upgrade their server to support the record breaking view count.

Because the server never thought that a video could surpass a 32-bit integer which equals 2,147,483,647 views, you will see the numbers glitch if you happen to hover over the view count. Now Google is apparently going to solve this issue by switching to a 64-bit integer. Thus has only left us wondering, who is going to be the next internet sensation?

As far as the history of Youtube goes, PSY has set a keystone there. Youtube, along with the social media has seen rapid growth in the past few years and thanks to our Facebook feed, we get to have a look at a number of Youtube videos. so now Youtube has all the more reason to stay up to date as far as its server goes.
