Zach Braff talks about his Crowdfunding experience.
Zach Braff Says He Will Never Use Crowdfunding Again
Zach Braff has vowed to never use any crowdfunding platform for his movies. The actor issued the statement at a press briefing on his comedy I wish I Was Here during Zurich Film Festival.
The actor was responding on the negative criticism that was hurled his way after he rolled out a crowdfunding campaign at Kickstarter. The campaign was intended to collect donations amounting to $2 million dollars within one month. But to his surprise, his target was exceeded in just 48 hours.
According to ScreenDaily, Zach stated that those who were opposed to their idea were not justified in their opinions because they were making their opinions based on hearsay. Despite the criticism, the campaign enjoyed the support of more than 47,000 supporters.
The actor pointed out that he was aware that the campaign had attracted the attention of contributors who were involved in the funding of other projects in Kickstarter. Zurich further added that it was his duty to explain to donors why he could not produce the film using traditional means. He said that he felt offended by critics who were quick into making uninformed conclusions.
Fortunately for Zach, Michael Shamberg was of a similar opinion. Perhaps it’s because Michael is a producer and so he understood what the actor was going through. Michael was attending the festival in Zurich to get his Career Achievement Award. Zach was at the frontline of the contributions followed by the usual traditional pre-sales.
Zach argued that he was just tasting the waters at Kickstarter and so that was his first and last film to get funded through the platform. The actor is the star in I wish I Was Here which premiered last January at Sundace.
