Ford has officially unveiled what /4/be the most important car it will show this year. The 2015 F-150 is a significant departure for Ford from previous models. The new F-150 sheds hundreds of pounds by moving to an aluminum body in place of the old all steel construction.

The F-150 is a huge seller for Ford being the most popular vehicle in the country. Ford’s aluminum construction has shed 700 pounds from the truck allowing it to offer better performance and get better fuel efficiency.

Ford has also unveiled a new engine option for the 2015 F-150 giving it four engine choices. The new engine is the 2.7L EcoBoost. The new F-150 also gets 11 class exclusives including a 360-degree camera view, integrated loading ramps in the truck bed, 400W power outlets, and LED headlights. The 2015 F-150 also has a remote tailgate release.

“F-150 is well-known for being Built Ford Tough. Now, it is both tough and smart,” said Mark Fields, Ford Motor Company chief operating officer. “The all-new F-150 redefines the future of trucks, and it is yet another example of our One Ford plan producing vehicles that serve customers with a commitment to the very best quality, fuel efficiency, safety, smart design and value.”

Ford says that it raced a disguised 2015 F-150 in the Baja 1000 where it was able to complete the entire race, a feat in its own right. Those integrated loading ramps make it easy to load motorcycles, mowers, and other stuff into the bed of the truck.

The 2015 F-150 also has a trailer hitch assist system that offers a read view camera with a dynamic line based on steering wheel input to help line your truck up with a trailer without having to get out of the vehicle or find a spotter. The new F-150 also gets an -inch screen in the instrument panel, LED lighting in the cargo box, and a box side step on the shorter 5.5-foot box.

The F-150 can be had with the 2.7L EcoBoost, 3.5L V6, 3.5L EcoBoost, and the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8. The truck will be available in five primary trims including XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum and King Ranch. The truck will go on sale later this year with pricing unannounced.
