2016 Volvo XC90 Reviews and Videos

The 2016 Volvo XC90 SUV has already more than 30,000 pre-orders. The first hands-on reviews are giving Volvo a thumbs up for their daring SUV concept

Volvo has pushed with the new 2016 Volvo XC90 into he luxury SUV segment and tries to give BMW, Porsche and Audi a hard time. The Chinese owned Swedish car maker is doing again well these days. The XC90 will accelerate Volvo’s growth. The company reported earlier this month that 30,000 pre-orders for the XC90 poured in already. The first 2016 Volvo XC90 will start shipping in June with the First Edition orders.

The XC90 T6 will start shipping officially in July followed on October by the XC90 T8 hybrid model in October. Volvo did something very risky with the new XC90 pushing into the luxury SUV segment. They gave the car only a 4-cylinder engine option with 313hp. The XC90 T8 hybrid model ads an electric engine to the 4-cylinder engine. Porsche, BMW and Audi SUVs run at least on 6-cylinder petrol or diesel engine.

The Volvo XC90 makes a risky play at the responsible SUV fans. How big is that segment of customers though? The XC90 price-point is lower than the established luxury SUV brands and this might be the trick. Volvo is lifting new buyers into the luxury SUV segment with their responsible and reasonably priced offering. The 2016 Volvo XC90 starts at $48,900 MSRP. The XC90 runs on a 4-cylinder engine with 316HP that with a low 25MPG on the Highway. The XC90 T8 Twin Engine will start at $52,900.

Volvo has let the first members of the press drive the 2016 Volvo XC90. The 2016 Volvo XC90 reviews are throughout positive, but no reviewer is over the top excited about the new Volvo.

Tech News site SlashGear has a very detailed review saying: “With the all-new 2016 XC90, Volvo has made an astonishingly convincing stab at the premium end, and come up with a legitimate alternative to the knee-jerk Germans.”

Left Lane Cars Volvo XC90 T6 test brings the reviewer to the conclusion: “Representing the best of Swedish design and technological innovation, the 2016 XC90 is the total package — brains, brawn and beauty. Hopefully Volvo doesn’t let this one wither on the vine for the next 13 years.”

Left Lane Cars has also published a video of a 2016 Volvo XC90 review.

Cars.com first drive of the Volvo XC90 leads to the following verdict: “The 2016 XC90 was worth the wait; it offers enough luxury to compete with anything coming out of Germany or Japan, a refined driving experience with the air suspension, and accessible and intuitive technology. Add in the well-executed safety features and the XC90 will hold great appeal for families looking for a luxury vehicle with some utility.”

CNET also took a first look at the XC90 and published this first look video.

For Volvo fans with a lot of time on their hands, Autogefuehl published a Volvo XC90 video review over 1 hour long. Gotta love the German accent on the reviewer.
