$9 CHIP Computer Raised $1.1m from 21,000 Backers so Far

Chip the $9 computer has blown past its modest $50,000 funding goal and has already raised $1.1 million in the first days.

The CHIP computer will only cost you $9 and it is a single-board computer which is able to run Linux.

This ultra low cost computer got geeks around extremely excited and already over 21,000 came together on Kickstarter and raised over $1.1 million.

Chip is powerful enough to play classic 3D shooter Quake on it. On board of this computer you are going to find 512 RAM, 1GHz processor and 4GB of storage.

The users can also install a light version of Debian and they can also plug CHIP into something called PocketCHIP. The PocketCHIP will add a touchscreen and a keyboard to the mix and it will become of the size of a Game Boy.

Next Thing Co. launched the Kickstarter crowd-funding project for Chip with a very modest goal of $50,000. Funding already is 20x what the company needed and there are still 24 days to go. Supporters of the Chip computer will need patience. The company plans to ship the CHIP starting in January of 2016. The December batch is sold out. The accessories like the PocketCHIP will ship in one year. The price of under $10 opens up endless new opportunities and the Rasperry Pi makers need to think about a strategy to counter the CHIP.

This is a must have computer because firstly it just costs you $9. If you want to add a VGA adapter then it will cost you $19 and if you are looking to add a HDMI adapter then that will cost you $24.

Many people are thinking by now that why we need a small computer when we can do everything on our laptop/desktop. Well the thing is that this computer can be used at several places. The company has some solid manufacturing as they are a Haxlr8r company.
