New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had his head shaved off for the One Foundation “Buzz Off” event for pediactric cancer.
According to Briana Palma of the Patriots’ official website, Gronkowski participated in the event for the fourth year in a row. This year’s event took place at the Patriots’ Gillette Stadium on June 8, National Cancer Survivors Day.
More than a thousand people followed Gronkowski’s lead in shaving their heads off and raising more than $1 million for children with cancer, per Palma.
After Gronkowski had gone bald, he got a buzzer and shaved his brother Gordie Gronkowski’s head. The family has been supportive of the cause for years. Their mother, Diane, shaved Rob’s head in last year’s event, per the Patriots’ official website.

Rob Gronkowski appeared bald and shirtless on billboards which were put up along I-93, I-495 and other major thoroughfares in the New England area in Dec. 2014 to promote the fundraiser. One version of the billboard ad says “GET GRONK’D!” while another one says “MAKING BALD SEXY!”
Palma says the photo of a bald and shirtless Gronkowski was taken in 2013, the year before the billboard ads were installed.
In 2014, Gronkowski told Patriots.com about his enthusiasm for helping children:
“When One Mission asked me to go shirtless in their campaign to get people to sign up for the Buzz Off for Kids with Cancer, I had my shirt off before they finished the question. I would do anything to help these kids.”
One Mission president Ashley Haseotes told Palmer the organization is fortunate to have someone like Gronkowski support its cause:
“We do whatever it takes to help kids and their families get through cancer. And lucky for everyone, that includes getting Rob to take his shirt off and buzz his head to show that going bald for kids with cancer takes strength, courage and an unbreakable, positive attitude.”

In another development, Gronkowski’s brother, Chris, told CBS Boston on June 2 the clan filmed an episode of the famous game show “The Family Feud” on ABC.
Gronkowski will also be featured on HBO’s mini-series “Entourage” and a movie entitled “You Can’t Have It” in which he and his brother Dan portray policemen, per ESPN.
In other team news, police discovered an abandoned and damaged car registered to Patriots linebacker Takeo Spikes along I-495 on June 7.
Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio told ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss the car is a 2011 Mercedes Maybach. Initial reports had the driver of the car hitting a deer but when authorities arrived on the scene on Sunday at 3:30 a.m. ET, neither the driver nor the deer were present, per ESPN Boston.

Police also reported a 2009 Nissan Murano in the vicinity whose occupants claimed another vehicle hit theirs on the rear end. Procopio and his team are investigating if there is a connection between the two incidents, per Reiss.
“We are aware of the report and are looking into the matter,” Patriots spokesman Stacey James told ESPN Boston on Sunday. “But I don’t have any additional comment at this time.”
Spikes suited up for the Patriots from 2010 to 2013. He admitted he was surprised when head coach Bill Belichick called him up this year taking into account how his first tenure with New England ended, per Reiss.
“I just want to show him I’ve changed as an individual, as a player, as a man,” Spikes told ESPN Boston last month. “I’m going to just show him; better than just saying it, I’m going to show him.”
