Marilyn Burns, best known her role in the cult horror film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, died Tuesday at her home in Houston
‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ star Marilyn Burns dies at 65
We say this with a heavy heart that Marilyn Burns has departed from this world at the age of 65. The actress was known well for her role in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and she took her last breath on Tuesday at her home, according to her manager. Though she was born in Pennsylvania, Burns spent much of her time growing up in Texas and took up an interest in acting at a very young age. She pursued acting throughout her school and she first debuted in Robert Altman’s Brewster McCloud. At the time she was also working for her drama degree at the University of Texas at Austin.
She took up many small parts in numerous other projects too but her most famous role of all time was of an unlucky teen Sally Hardesty in Tobe Hooper’s bloody 1974 hit The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Even to this date, the film and her role remain quite memorable. Owen Gleiberman reviewed the 2003 remake of the movie saying “With the exception of Psycho, it’s the only modern horror movie I can think of that’s as elegant as it is relentless.”
Marilyn Burns was also seen in Hooper’s Eaten Alive and as Linda Kasabian in the Charles Manson miniseries Helter Skelter. Some of her cameo appearances were included in the 1994’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation and 2013’s Texas Chainsaw 3D.
