Dinesh D’Souza, who is a trenchant critic of President Obama and his government, barely escaped a prison sentence due to his role in the past elections.
Dinesh D’Souza barely escapes Prison Sentence
The author and moviemaker, Dinesh D’Souza, 53, who is on the side of the conservatives and Republicans, was saved from prison by the skin of his teeth.
A U.S. District Judge, Richard Berman, however did sentence him to spend eight months in a confinement center in Manhattan due to his transgression of electoral financial limits. The center where D’Souza would be living would allow him time off to attend his job premises.
So it was not exactly like prison yet had the imprimatur of solitary confinement. A day of community service was mandatory too during the week for this man who had done wrong. And he was fined heavily (to the amount of $30,000).

D’Souza had been a longtime critic and diehard opponent of President Obama. He was found guilty of paying two donors who went ahead and in turn paid $10,000 to the 2012 campaign of Wendy Long, a Republican.
D’Souza to this day says he regrets his decision which was bad thinking and he says he got what he deserved. “It was a crazy idea, it was a bad idea,” D’Souza said before being sentenced. “I regret breaking the law.”
When D’Souza’s sentence was declared to be not a prison sentence, he heaved a sigh of relief and thanked the judge for showing such extreme leniency. There were several complex factors involved in the overall decision taken by the judge.

“I’m not sure, Mr. D’Souza, that you get it,” Berman said before announcing the sentence. “And it is still hard for me to discern any personal acceptance of responsibility in this case.”
The verdict was light and D’Souza had literally been saved from a tough time ahead by his sheer luck and status as an author and film creator. D’Souza wrote a book four years ago titled “The Roots of Obama’s Rage”.

Meanwhile, the film which he directed was titled “2016: Obama’s America”. The film portrayed the dismal state of the nation in the future if Obama continued to rule it.
The fact that Dinesh D’Souza is a respectable author and documentary maker does not in any way excuse him from the magnitude of the crime he committed. That he will not go to prison /4/have made his family and friends glad, yet the same decision had made many democrats and supporters of President Obama very angry.
